About Me

Welcome to à la crème.

My name is Megan, I'm a private chef and part time barista, as well as a self-proclaimed gourmand. I grew up in South Pasadena, a small Southern California city about twenty minutes from the heart of Los Angeles. From an early age I loved to eat, and was always happy to try something different. From traditional Guatemalan food from my father's side of the family to many American classics that stems from my mother's side of southern and mid-western roots. From the time I was sixteen, every job I've held has been associated with the food industry which put me on a direct path to Culinary school; I have a degree from the California School of Culinary Arts (now known as the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts) in Pasadena, California. My professional experience includes working as a cheese monger in a specialty food shop, private chef, pastry and baking, and working the cold/hot line in a commercial kitchen. In July 2009 I moved to Bologna, Italy and spent nearly two years exploring, eating and learning to speak Italian. Each place I traveled to in Europe gave me an opportunity to learn the unique beauty and importance of seasonal and local cooking, through that, I found my passion to travel matched that of my passion for food. Presently I live, and am adjusting to life, in New England. Specifically New Hampshire, where the winters are bunked down with my dutch oven and my favorite clam chowdah recipe; dreaming of the summers that are spent on the Maine coast eating lobster rolls and soaking up the sun on the rocks next to the Nubble Lighthouse.

My heritage and my life experiences have formed not only who I am as a person but where I have found my identity as a cook. My biggest goal is to continue to learn and grow through food and travel and convey that to the audience I build through my blog. So, this is where I come to write about my culinary inspirations from everyday life, my travels, culinary idols and the people in my life who manage to make my days brighter with their own culinary delights and experiences. While I have no formal training as a writer it has been my dream to do food writing for years, to share my passion and experiences with a greater audience. With this blog I am making this dream real, and so here it is, from my heart to your home (or smart phone!). Happy reading and buon appetito!

Love, Megan
